5great product! fun, easy to use, and helpful!  Mar 20, 2008 By S. Thompson "-S. Thompson"
I bought this product about two months ago, hoping to practice my soccer skills, as to make the high school soccer team. I had no previous experience of the game, so I found it all the more necessary to buy products such as these. My first impression was good, except for the frustration of finding the needle for the soccer pump. I must have spent about 20 minutes looking through all the packaging and thinking it must have fallen out somewhere between target and home. So I will try to spare you that frustration and tell you that their is a little compartment on the pump itself, you just pop open the top, and there's the needle. Perhaps that is the case with many pumps, but as I said, I had no previous experience with these types of things. So maybe many pumps have a little compartment for the needle, and maybe you all know that but me.

But other than that little scenario, I've used the kit probably every day. The ball is a size 4, I had thought it would be a 5, so that was a little dissapointing, but perhaps If I actually would've read the package first, I would've been more informed. So I can blame that on myself.

The waistband fits very small waists (my 7 yr old cousin tried it, it fits well). And I've noticed it has the ability to stretch quite a bit. it's just velcro, and it's pretty sturdy. Besides the annoying noise that occurs when you un-stick it, it does it's job very well.

The 'net', or cover to put around the soccer ball fits size 3, 4, and 5 soccer balls. it stays in put, and won't slip out. With all the bumping and banging and skidding the poor thing endures with my novice soccer skills, I can easily say it's very durable. I'm surprised it's put up with me this long.

the pump works great, and was easily inflated. It hasn't deflated even the slightest bit yet, and I've had it for a couple months. The 'weight' or disk type thing you see in the picture, is a 3 pound weight you connect the ball to, and you can kick it, without sending the the ball (or weight) flying into the street, trees, pedestrians, or etc.
The one that was included in my kit was more a rectangle, and black, but I'm sure they have different varities of the product.

I actually haven't used the two little orange cones yet, but I'm sure their use is pretty self explanatory. You could use them as a make-shift goal, or things to manuver around, or pretty much anything. They are plastic, but pretty durable, I've already stepped on them a couple times and they haven't broken or cracked from my weight.

Overall, I give this 5 stars. For [the money], you can't get much better. It's great for beginners (such as me) and I'm sure it would be helpful to anybody (experts as well, although I wouldn't know from experience).

Thanks!

1cord came off first time it was used  May 28, 2011 By kamq
The cord came off the first use. It is not secured well. It is hard to get it secure enough to keep it on.

I bought the trainer for a friend's son who loves it. It's perfect for training soccer skills.

2Potentially dangerous design flaw  Jul 11, 2009 By c.cash
There is a major flaw in this design which is potentially dangerous: It uses a foam-rubber "basket" or harness that holds the ball. This foam is relatively thick, and it will usually be facing you when you kick. Because of this, I found myself subconsciously trying to get under the ball more than I normally would, which caused me to KICK INTO THE GROUND.

Maybe I'm an idiot, and maybe you wouldn't have this issue. But I'm now looking at possible surgery for torn cartilage in my knee (meniscus tear). I've played soccer for over 30 years. I've never suffered an injury, and I know how to properly kick a ball.

When I first received the product I was pleasantly surprised. The basket can accommodate your own size 5 ball. The counter-weight, which is only three pounds, did a great job of staying-put. The elastic cord worked better than I expected. After about 20 kicks though, the basket came unhooked from the cord and the ball went sailing. That would happen occasionally.

I suspected I had been overcompensating, trying to get more lift on the ball because of the basket. The next day my knee was really sore, so I waited a few weeks before I tried it again. The next time I used it, I definitely kicked right into the ground... dirt went flying and it was painful. The plastic hook also broke earlier that day, and I had to tie the cord directly to the basket.

It's been two months and my knee is getting worse, to the point where I've had to take time off from playing. Surgery will depend on whether or not I can get it to heal.

My personal experience may be unique, and I'd give it -5 stars if I could. Instead I give it two stars for the design and product alone. The bottom line is they should rethink the design of this product and go with a net basket like everyone else.
